From Finn’s previous owner:
I found Finn at an animal shelter and brought into the shelter as a stray, and was quite scrawny and thin. I immediately fell in love with him and decided I wanted to take him home.
When I first brought Finn home, I found out the hard way that he was a “runner” and an escape artist. He took off a couple of times in the first few months that I had him. One of those times he was found in a local farmer’s sheep pasture. He had not attacked any of the livestock, but he was definitely chasing them around. He was taken to doggie jail until I was able to bail him out.
Since I have had Finn, he has always been around other dogs. Finn is a very sweet boy, good with other dogs and always wants to play, but also likes other dogs to know that he is in charge. Finn is great with people and children, but does try to jump up on kids as a way to “say hi”. Finn has never been aggressive when not provoked. He has growled and shown teeth at a couple of “unsavory men” while my wife was with him and I was not.
Finn loves to go on long walks and hikes, loves shallow water, but not sprayed water. Loves the beach. He tolerates baths. He likes car rides, as long as he can stick his head out the window, but he will drool on everything in the car. I’ve found that the back of the truck is best if you like the interior of your car.
Finn can easily clear a 5-foot fence, has acquired a taste for free-range chicken, guinea hens, and most recently goat. He has not killed any large animals to my knowledge but has killed chickens, peacocks, and guinea hens.
Finn is crate trained and likes his crate. It is his “safe space”. We usually drape a blanket over his crate to make it more den-like, and Finn has shown that he prefers that. Finn also likes to have a blanket in his crate and will suck on the blanket when he feels stressed out or insecure.
Finn needs an owner that knows what he or she is doing. Someone that has an appropriately sized yard, with appropriate height fencing, and other hybrids for him to play with. We love Finn, and it tears us up knowing that we cannot provide for him what he needs.
Finn has been my boy for several years. He rescued me when I was in a dark place, just as much as I rescued him. Finn actually brought my wife and I together. It breaks my heart to have to give him up for adoption.
