Hello Everyone! My name is Suzi. I spent a long time on the streets and even got pregnant while out there. Having those pups made me a little slow and the ‘man’ nabbed me. I was pretty beat up. Plenty of bad critters were trying to eat my pups but I fought them off. I was placed on that darn Kill-List because I was nervous around other dogs and people. In addition, I was deemed ‘unattractive’ because of my tummy and injuries to my snout and eye.

I was rescued and sent to Pets Return Home to recuperate and learn some new manners. I was a handful for sure. All those other dogs kept taking my food. Well actually, I thought all the bowls were mine. Who knew I could share – which I do now.

I have finally settled down. Currently I am in foster in Prescott AZ with a wonderful family. The young man takes me for walks and my foster mom is so sweet. She has taught me how to use the doggie door and walk up and down a whole lot of stairs. I sniffed my first cat the other day – nose to nose! Silly cat hissed at me – I just walked away. He will come around, I am a fun gal.

The other two dogs here are cool too. We have not gotten into any fights. We want to play but I am still on “intro” time. Soon though I will be romping around and playing like I did with the 20 at Pets Return Home.

If you would like to meet me, or take me home, I would really like it. I am a basset hound, about five years old and am a little beat up – but a snuggle bug.

Behaviorist Notes

Suzi was rescued from Pinal County Animal Control. She had recently whelped and was clearly living on the streets the whole time. She had lesions on her face, left eye and tummy that were probably caused by exposure to the elements (including flies, according to the vet) and fights with other dogs (a good mamma defends her pups).

She has had the opportunity to heal from her wounds and spayed recently. She looks like a Basset//Beagle mix. She is snugly, friendly with humans, children, and most dogs. She is food “guarding” which means her bowl should be away from any other dog’s feed bowl.

She is a good dog to have around for companionship. She likes to hang out at your feet and snuggle too. A good middle-aged dog for someone who appreciates what a dog her age has been through and brings.
